Police Respond to Perez Hilton’s Home
Police in Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office responded to the home of Perez Hilton (whose given name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.) after the celebrity blogger and reality television alum was seen in a highly disturbing video, wherein he appeared to be nude and slashing at his own body with a knife while covered in blood.
In a statement provided to TV Insider, the MDSO's public information office confirmed the incident on Tuesday (August 4) night after the graphic video was shared by others who witnessed the stream.
"The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office received multiple calls regarding an individual who was live-streaming acts of self-harm on social media. Deputies quickly located the individual's residence, where they spoke with family members on scene, and he was confirmed alone inside," the statement reads.
"In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication," the statement continues.
"At this time, deputies have tactically disengaged while continuing to monitor the situation and providing the needed support to his family."
In the video, the media personality is brandishing a knife while talking incoherently to the camera, covered in what appeared to be blood. Nude and seemingly disoriented, Perez was making a series of disturbing, difficult-to-follow statements while seemingly using the knife on himself.
Hilton had previously indicated struggles with mental health. In April, he posted a video in which he claimed "The Devil is trying to bring me down" and asked for prayers from followers.
Since the show debuted in 2005, the ballroom has welcomed everyone from Olympic champions and musicians to Hollywood stars and reality TV favorites. Season 34 was won by wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin, who defeated influencer Alix Earle and gymnast Jordan Chiles in the finale.

“In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication,” the statement continued. “Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public.”
The Hollywood Reporter has also reached out to the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office for comment on the incident involving Perez, in addition to his personal rep.
Earlier this year, Perez shared in a lengthy Instagram video that he was hospitalized for three weeks after initially battling the flu before developing “an ulcer, and then a perforation, and then Sepsis,” he said at the time.
The Sepsis just kept working and my body kept falling apart,” Hilton explained in the video in March. “Then one night with rapid response came ’cause my heart got out of control. They had to put me on heart medications. And then I developed another infection in the hospital.”
He added, “It was just such a slow process. I mean, two weeks of just sickness and then another week of getting better before I was released. And that last week was hell because I had already been in the hospital two weeks by then. I was like, ‘I just wanna go home. I just want to be with my babies.’” Perez is a single father of three children.
Once he was released from the hospital and sent back home, Perez said he had time to reflect and came to the realization “that God presented Himself to me” during the challenging experience.
“It was real and this has been life-changing. I’m so grateful,” he added at the time. “I’m excited to start taking the kids to church every week. And to just know that God is real. … I don’t have to hope to believe. I know now.”

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office revealed it received “multiple calls” regarding an unnamed individual who was “live-streaming acts of self-harm on social media.” Police quickly located the individual’s home and spoke with family members on the scene and confirmed he was alone.

In closing, the police department revealed that, “At this time, deputies have tactically disengaged while continuing to monitor the situation.”
Perez rose to fame with his celebrity gossip website and later became a television personality known for covering Hollywood’s biggest stars.
He has three young kids.
