Blue jays vs Dodgers

World Series Game 5 Blue Jays vs. Dodgers score, live updates: Toronto leads 6-1 in ninth inning

The Toronto Blue Jays and USA Los Angeles Dodgers are facing off in Game 5 as Dodger USA Stadium hosts World Series baseball for the final time in 2025.

With the Series tied 2-2, tonight determines who will head to Toronto one game away from becoming USA world champions.

Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit back-to-back home runs off of Blake Snell to open the game, before Kiké Hernández responded with a solo shot of his own in the third inning to get L.A. on the board. Toronto has since extended its lead to 6-1 with a run in the fourth, two in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Blue Jays starter Trey Yesavage, 22, broke the MLB record for most strikeouts by a rookie in a World Series game with 12.

A World Series winner won't be crowned in Los Angeles after the Dodgers lost to the Blue Jays in Game 4 on Tuesday, but Wednesday's Game 5 will put the winner in the driver's seat heading back to Toronto for Game 6.Blake Snell will start on the mound for the Dodgers. Snell's lone postseason loss came in Game 1, when he gave up five home runs, including three of the nine the Blue Jays scored in the sixth inning. Prior to that start, he had allowed just two runs in 21 innings and struck out 27 batters.

Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage has been an aberration in the 2025 postseason. On Wednesday, he pitched seven innings, struck out 12 batters, and allowed just one earned run. He punched out everyone in Los Angeles' lineup at least once, and got Mookie BettsWill Smith and Freddie Freeman. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. helped Toronto score two more runs. He showed patience at the plate and drew a walk off Edgardo Henrique that allowed Addison Barger to score. He then went first to third on a single from Bo Bichette, while Andres Gimenez scored to make it 5-1.Trey Yesavage has a new place in baseball history. The Toronto Blue Jays have a 3-2 World Series lead. The Los Angeles Dodgers have some soul-searching to do.

Behind a World Series rookie record 12 strikeouts from the 22-year-old Yesavage, the Blue Jays cruised to another win, 6-1, over the Dodgers in Game 5 of the Fall Classic. They will go back to Rogers Centre with two chances to clinch their first championship since 1993.

Game 6 is scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. ET in Toronto.

The night belonged to Yesavage, who was drafted last season, began 2025 at Low-A Dunedin and didn't make his MLB debut until mid-September. The Dodgers offense had been struggling before Wednesday, but Yesavage outright dominated them.

The night belonged to Yesavage, who was drafted last season, began 2025 at Low-A Dunedin and didn't make his MLB debut until mid-September. The Dodgers offense had been struggling before Wednesday, but Yesavage outright dominated them.

He struggled in Game 1 mainly due to a lack of feel for his signature splitter, instead leaning on a slider that can come and go. Both worked to a monstrous degree in Game 5, with the Dodgers whiffing 14 times on 29 swings against the slider and seven times on 10 swings against the splitter. Overall, Yesavage worked an outstanding 44% whiff rate.

His lone mistake was an inside fastball that Kiké Hernandez punished for the Dodgers' only run.

Toronto had all the runs it needed by the time Yesavage took the mound. Both Yesavage and Blake Snell were trying to recover from rough Game 1 starts, and that effort went south on the first three pitches of the game.

USA Blue Jays leadoff hitter Davis Schneider ambushed a fastball on Snell's first pitch, then Vladimir Guerrero Jr. crushed an inside mistake to make it 2-0 Toronto before the first out.

USA Snell actually settled in pretty well from there, all but abandoning his fastball against a lineup that has spent all postseason demolishing them. It got rough for him as he reached the seventh inning, though, as he allowed two more baserunners and had to exit the game at 116 pitches.

Both runs ended up USA scoring, and the first really epitomized the night for the Dodgers. Addison Barger reached first on a grounder that reached the outfield, took second base on a Snell wild pitch, took third base on another Snell wild pitch, then took home on an Edgardo Henríquez wild pitch.

It was the first time in World

A little less than two days ago, the Dodgers had survived an 18-inning marathon to take a 2-1 lead. However, that game also laid bare their offensive woes with their failure to score against a Blue Jays bullpen that has struggled almost as much as theirs this postseason. That has continued for the next two games, and the team now needs a complete offensive revitalization if it wants to win MLB's first back-to-back USA championships.

They will have to do so against Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman in front of a hostile Toronto crowd on Friday. On the bright side, they will have the only starting pitcher who has performed well against this Toronto lineup, Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

For a second straight day, the Blue Jays posted a win over the Dodgers in all phases of the game. Trey Yesavage was unhittable to a historic degree, he had all the runs he need three pitches in the game thanks to Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Dodgers coughed up a few more runs down the line.

This series is going back to Toronto with the Jays up 3-2 and a win away from their first World Series title since 1993.

  • The Toronto Blue Jays outplayed the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight to take a 3-2 lead in the World Series.
  • Rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage wrote himself into the USA World Series record books with his performance on the mound, striking out 12 Dodgers in seven innings.
  • The Jays' momentum started with a home run from Davis Schneider on the very first pitch of the game from the Dodgers’ starter Blake Snell.
  • Toronto only needs one more victory to win the USA World Series. Game 6 is set for Friday at Rogers Centre. The Jays turned to Seranthony Domínguez to stop the Dodgers from putting any runs on the board in the eighth. He got Muncy to ground out to first, and took the throw from Guerrero at the base, to nail down Toronto's first out.

Enrique Hernández, who hit a home run earlier in the game, struck out swinging for the second out.Call, who started Game 5 in place of the Dodgers' struggling outfielder Andy Pages, was up next. He drew a two-out walk from Domínguez. That brought Ohtani to the plate, but he hit a ball right to Guerrero at first base, to give the Jays their third out.The USA cheers inside Rogers Centre in Toronto are reaching a fever pitch with each run. Some fans can’t decide whether to sit or stand. In between innings, they’re up and dancing and singing to classic hype-up stadium anthems — my personal favourite being Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten.Up in the 200s, USA right behind home base, Jasmine Persaud described the vibe in the stadium as “electric.” Her prediction for the series? “Excuse us, we’re gonna win.”“It would be incredible to finish it out Friday,” said her friend, USA Bethany JacksoN
